Staying in Touch with Family Members
Family relationships are important, especially during times of crisis. When someone close to us dies, we want to reach out to them and let them know we care.
However, too much contact can be harmful. In some cases, over-contact can cause relationship problems. If you are feeling stressed out because you are constantly calling or texting your loved ones, then maybe it’s time to take a break from contacting them.
While everyone is getting busier in their lives, it gets difficult to stay in touch with family members, especially if everyone lives far away. Loneliness can affect the mental health of seniors as they need emotional support while growing old in their home. But with your busy schedules at work and your own lives to manage, how you can manage to stay in touch and on top of your elderly parents or grandparents living alone. Being socially connected to your loved ones can help in some way. Here's a few tips:
Phone calls
Phone calls are the best way to stay in touch when you live afar. Do not wait. Just give them a call whenever you are free. Ask them about their day and how they feel. This will give them a pleasant and exciting feeling. You can also try video calls as everyone now knows how they work and seniors are also eager to try new things. It would be good for them to see you or their grandchildren, it keeps them connected and engaged. If you get too busy, do not hesitate to drop them a text message letting them know you are thinking of them.
Visits
Plan visits or holidays together. Yes, it can be challenging to plan casual meet-ups when you live in another city, borough, state or country, but do not forget to spend holidays with your loved ones as they are growing old. While getting old, seniors need more love and support. Holidays are a great time to touch base and check in.
